Angela Lansbury on Pantry Staples

Bare cupboards? Why must you let everyone do everything for you? Too busy? Don’t know the how’s? Haven’t the least bit of interest?

To each their own as the saying goes.

Today I would like to touch on the power of bread. Not the bread wrapped in plastic, made by a machine with no heart, no soul. This bread will feed your body, yes it will, that is true. What is also true is that there is a difference enjoying bread made with your own hands.

The first time you make this bread, it is an arduous task. You must gather all of the ingredients, many of which you do not have readily at hand. Off to the market!

Once you have your supplies gathered, the building process I always say begins!

There is a magic that happens when your hands are in the dough. There is a grounding, centering, calming feeling that washes over you.

It is in the bringing of new life from something that appears disconnected and dormant.

Make yourself a priority. In the beginning, just like collecting the ingredients for your bread, it might seem daunting. Once you have gathered all you need for the task at hand, the easier this task becomes.

You see, flour, water, salt and honey are all steady supplies to keep on hand. Make bread once and it gets easier and easier every time you make it.

It is the same way when it comes to you taking care of you.

The dense dough that rises, that is us too sometimes if we allow it.

The preparations allow for a greater good. The fresh, hot loaf of bread out of the oven. Butter and plum jam please! The you that not only feels the contentment of “I made this!”. It is also the you that stops to relish the moment. Take in the smells, the tastes, the texture.

Feed yourself of the earth. The beautiful bounty will inturn feed your soul.

Channeled message from Dame Angela Lansbury, a British-Irish-American singer and actress who worked in film, stage and television for 80 years. Angela was a private person who loved reading, riding, playing tennis, cooking, gardening and playing the piano. She stated, “I believe that God is within all of us, that we are perfect, precious beings, and that we have to put our faith and trust in that.”
