The Monarch

My daughter and I were enjoying our morning at her horse show at the farm where we keep our horse, Nut. As we sat in our canvas folding chairs we both noticed a butterfly land on some freshly dropped horse manure. My daughter and I look at each other, both thinking the same thought. My Daughter then says to me; “It’s just that their heads and body are so small and their wings are so big. They think they are smaller than they are, they don’t realize how beautiful they are.” Well, as is usual these days, she said to me; “Can’t you ask?”

So, here I am, asking the question; Monarch Butterfly, do you know how beautiful you are? Your head and body are so small and your wings so big, maybe you don’t realize how big and beautiful you are.

The Monarch answers…This is true in the beginning. It is such hard work to get to those wings. Not all make it. True transformation is uncomfortable and messy.

You see the gold on the chrysalis don’t you? This is our Divinity, our purpose is encased within this gold. We feast, we work, we rest, we transform, we bloom.

Awkward in this awakening, we take a moment to regain our strength. We ever so gently begin to explore, to build ourselves up. We do find our joy, our beauty. Take the time to watch us. You will be able to tell which of us have found the freedom, this peace.

As a species, we have a direction, a journey, a lifespan. We also have our own Spirit. We all have the choice of how to live this short life. Some only focus on the ‘to do’s’ without allowing time for joy, that is alright. Why not have it all I say.

Embrace the Divine that is so much more than your body, so much more than your wing size. The Divine is an endless sea of moving parts. This sea is you, this sea is me. This is connectedness, oneness. You are me. I am you. One endless, beautiful set of wings.
