Shadow of Self

Shadows of self, always with you even when unseen. This clings to you, holds on for dear life. Do you see it? Do you recognize the voice in this shadow? The depth that this shadow employs?

 

Remember your innocent delight when you discovered this moving, ever-changing form connected to you? You played with your shadow, ran and jumped with your shadow. You were friends.

 

Somehow, along the way, you slowly lost your joy and connection to this shadow friend. Disconnected, this shadow began to fill the void. Worries, doubts, fears, negativity filled its form.

 

This shadow, once light, airy and fun is now dense and heavy. Laden and bulky, you carry the shadow on your back. Everywhere you go, your shadow follows.

 

How do we unpack this heavy load? Find your joy in the simplest of pleasures. Even the morning coffee can become a joyful event. Take in a quiet moment, feel gratitude for the warmth this coffee provides. The craving that is satisfied, the boost of energy. Gratitude in all things big and small will reconnect you to this joy.

 

Walk with your shadow, get out into the fresh air. Notice what is outside of yourself, outside of your busy mind. Allow these burdens a respite. Stop the worry. Stop the fear. Stop the doubt. They are not real. They are not who you truly are.

 

Who you are is where you are at this very moment. Here and now. This is your moment. Create beauty, create connection. Love yourself in this moment. Love your shadow and your shadow will love you back.
