Alexander Hamilton, what makes one person brave enough to run into battle when another would run away?
‘Firstly, there is a sense of invincibility. The noble cause will uplift our spirit whether we live or die. Secondly, integrity. When one pledges allegiance and takes an oath, a promise has been made. What kind of man, or anyone for that matter, goes back on his word?’
What if the person that ran was just scared?
‘Understandably so. Did this person put themselves in a position of service? If yes, then it is deemed cowardly to turn away from your chosen responsibilities.’
Even if they were drafted to serve against their will?
‘An oath is an oath. One needs only to follow their calling. If that is to serve then serve boldly and brazenly, full steam ahead. Whatever your direction in life is to be, let it be with the greatest of intentionality towards your fellow man. Don’t lie, don’t cheat, don’t steal from another what is rightly theirs. Live your life with enthusiasm, determination and an adventurous heart.’
Audie Murphy… ‘It is more than what Alexander explained. For me, it is doing what is right, you stand up and fight for those that have been wronged. If God put you in that position then that is where you are meant to be. I chose to be there too and if you are going to do anything of merit it must be done from your heart. You help your wounded when called upon to do so. You free the enslaved when called to do so. If giving your life for the sake of another is warranted, let it be.’
Why do some runaway in fear instead of fight?
‘I do not know what is in their heart or the path their life is to take. I will not lay judgement upon them, they will judge their own actions. When you live a life from a place of love and compassion, your convictions are easy to follow. You don’t have to ponder what is right or wrong, you already know what is right for you. You know what will allow you to sleep at night. Live your life on purpose. Your life matters. Live for the sake of living.’
